22 Feb Understanding and Surviving Allergy Season
Allergy season is here again. The weather is warm and beautiful, but for the more than 20% of New Zealanders* who suffer from seasonal allergies this is also a time for constant irritation. Warmer winters nationwide have triggered the early release of tree and plant pollen. According to allergy experts, allergy season has been coming earlier each year for the past 20 years. Once the thermometer reaches 16 degrees for 3 – 4 days in a row, the weather conditions are just right for the perfect storm of allergens.
The most common culprit during allergy season is pollen. Once pollen is released from a plant, it can travel for miles. Breezy days often trigger the most intense allergy symptoms because the wind carries the pollen, spreading misery to allergy sufferers along the way.
For those who suffer during allergy season, all it takes to trigger an allergic reaction is breathing. When a tiny pollen particle enters the nose, the body’s immune system kicks into high gear. The immune system recognizes pollen as an intruder and releases antibodies which normally would seek and destroy bacteria and viruses. These antibodies attack the allergens, which then leads to a release of histamines in the bloodstream. Allergy symptoms appear once the histamines are released.
There are many over the counter and prescription treatments available for seasonal allergies. Unfortunately, many of them contain potent active ingredients which can be very harmful if used for more than a few days at a time.
If you have seasonal allergies, there’s no need to stay indoors or take harmful medications. We’ve formulated a complete line of saline nasal and sinus care products with xylitol for the whole family. Each of our products is non-GMO and features a saline solution paired with xylitol. Traditional saline solutions without xylitol tend to dry out the nasal and sinus passageways when used too frequently. When added to nasal solutions, xylitol gently cleanses and hydrates the nasal and sinus passageways. This cleansing and soothing effect reduces congestion by making it difficult for pollen, dander and other irritants to adhere to the sensitive nasal tissues.
For effective relief this allergy season, use Xlear Sinus Care products with xylitol. You’ll finally be able to breathe freely and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.
