What is Dry Mouth Syndrome, also called Xerostomia?
A dry mouth is a lack of saliva and is a symptom of an underlying problem, rather than a disease in itself.
When healthy, we produce 1 to 1 ½ litres of saliva per day, which equates to about 40,000 litres, over a lifetime, however, due to many factors clinically dry mouth or xerostomia, (as the medics call it), affects about 1 in 4 kiwis.
