More Athletes and Trainers are turning to Nasal Breathing
Breathing through the nose during exercise isn’t anything new. Yoga and other practices have long used nasal breathing. Now more doctors and athletes recognise its benefits. Dr. Roy Sugarman, director of applied neuroscience for EXOS and mindset coast for the US Men’s National Soccer Team, says that since carbon dioxide saturation in the blood increases and breathing slows during nasal breathing, it “creates a calming effect” for the athlete. Dr John Doulliard, former director of Player Development for the New Jersey Nets, has performed several studies which support nasal breathing. These studies found that with nasal breathing the body was less stressed could go farther and could get into “the zone” easier.
What are the effects of mouth breathing?
Breathing through your mouth constricts blood vessels, which leads to decreased oxygen absorption in the muscles. Constricted blood vessels also increases blood pressure and heart rate. Breathing through the mouth restricts you from reaching your true athletic potential.
Start breathing through your nose.
When you breathe through your nose, nitric oxide is introduced into the respiratory system and carbon dioxide is retained in the blood vessels. Both gases dilate the blood vessels, allowing for:
- Better oxygen and nutrient absorption in the muscles
- Lower heart rate
- Decreased blood pressure
Xlear Nasal Spray will get you breathing through your nose.
Many Athletes don’t feel comfortable breathing through their nose during exercise. Xlear Nasal Spray is here to open up the airway and make nasal breathing easy.
Xlear opens up the airway in two ways:
- Xlear is a hypertonic solution that pulls the extra moisture out of swollen, inflamed sinus tissues.
- Xlear also cleanses the nasal passages of mucus and contaminants, opening up the airway and keeping it clear.
